Making Double Doors:

There are a few more steps to making double doors then making single doors.  But when done right it really improves the possibilities for your map, making it look nicer and more original as u add to it.  Double doors, just like doors have many possibilities.  Remember when you first enter Vienna, and you head into the door right at the start point that leads into the haven.  The door that covers the floor going down to the lower level.  Imagine being able to do something like that with double doors :) or even using double doors as shuttered windows in your smaller houses inside your maps, so people can open the window and look outside.

If you have your map loaded from the door tutorial, close it now and open up the previous map (the one we had before making the door).  If your just coming here to learn how to make double doors, download our working map here.  This will give you a small area that you can use to make doors while you follow the tutorial.

After loading the map, make sure that nothing is selected,  Click in the X-Y Screen and press the ESC key.  Its always a good idea to do this when working on your map, it keeps you from making errors and accidently removing something. Draw one block that streches across the hallway entrance so you have something like below:

Now we are going to learn about a new tool on the toolbar, its called the clipper.   If used right the clipper can become a handy tool.  The button on the tool bar looks like this:

tool_15.gif (1028 bytes)

Click the clipper button and it should look depressed now.  We are going to use the clipper to make our block into two blocks, using the clipper tool to split it into two sections.  so about the middle of the block above it, click once, you will see a blue dot with a 1 next to it like below.  This means that that is going to be point 1 of the clipper.

embrace64.jpg (35792 bytes)

Now go below the block strait down from 1 and click again, another blue dot will apear with a 2 next to it. also part of your door will now have a yellow box around it.   This is the area that will be effected by the clipper tool. Be sure not to click another time or a 3rd blue dot will apear and your whole box will become selected.

embrace65.jpg (32693 bytes)

Now that we have the section marked that we want effected by the clipper tool, were going to go to the menu and click the "Selection" menu choice.  Down the list a little ways is one labeled "Clipper" that opens up another menu, these are all the different clipper tools.  All we want to do is Split the selection from the main box, so click Split Selection.

Good, now we have our two doors.  If you look at the camera view you will see you how have two brushes that are selected instead of one, is is also reflected in the X-Y Screen.

embrace67.jpg (17908 bytes)

We only want one brush selected right now.  So click once in the X-Y screen and press ESC to deselect the brushes, then use the arrow keys to move your little blue guy around in the X-Y Screen until we can see the blocks we just made in the camera view. Hold down shift and click one of the blocks in the camera view so you have something like below.

embrace68.jpg (19144 bytes)

Now we need to tell the game that this is going to be a double door.  So right click in the X-Y Screen go down to Quick Doors, and click on the option that says "Double Door"

embrace59.jpg (28583 bytes)

Again, just like when making a Door, your door will lose the red box around it and a little square box will now have selection.  Move this box off to one side of your door like shown below

embrace69.jpg (30048 bytes)

Then press the N key to bring up the Not List Viewer while the box is still selected, click the "main" Tab, go down to orientation and click the button that says "90".

embrace70.jpg (24359 bytes)

Press ESC to make sure that that box is no longer selected and select the other section of the door.  Repeat the last two steps to this one as welll so that we have the same as shown below:

embrace71.jpg (30385 bytes)

With the Second box still hightlighted, we will need to make the door open in the opposite direction. as it sits right now both doors would be swinging in the same direction.  This won't work for what we are trying to do. So back at the Not List Viewer (Press the N Key) Click the 90 button, in the center box above the buttons you will see 90 apear, change this to -90.

embrace72.jpg (24765 bytes)

There, now our doors will be opening in the opposite directions. But there is still a problem.  The doors are going to be opening seprately, and this we don't want to happen.  So go back to the X-Y Screen, press ESC and select one of the doors.

embrace68.jpg (19144 bytes)

Now we need to link the two doors together so they both open at the same time.  To do this we are going to need to be able to see both doors in the camera view so make sure you can first.  After doing that press Shift+C to bring up the codex linker.   You should see something like this:

embrace73.jpg (22177 bytes)

Ok, this tool is used for various things, right now we are going to use it to link two doors together.  The top box Tells it what speed the door will open at, right now its set to a speed of 10, which is about the normal for doors opening in vampire.  The next one down tells it which door is the second half, or the linked door.  Whatever is here is what will open at the same time as this door. Click in the second box right below the number 10 so that it is selected.  Now follow this next part very carfully.

In the camera view, the other door that isn't selected, hold shift down and click it.   You will see that the codex linker now has a value in the Second half box.   Both the doors are now linked together.  Click Apply then close the box by clicking the X in the upper right corner.  If you look at the camera view you should see a purple line between the two doors now.  This is showing that they are linked together.

Well, congrads, you've made it threw my double door tutorial :) there pretty simple once ya get the hang of them.  Double doors can be nice, you can use them as traps, but we will get into that later on.  How bout moving on to the next tutorial?
