Making A Door:

So you've got the rest down but now you wanna learn how to make a door eh? Well, here we are going to do something different, because we are going to need our map unchanged for the Double Door Tutorial, we are going to save a copy of this map.   So once you have your map loaded, from the menu click File, then Save as and save your map to a new name.  Lets Save this one as DoorTut.map.  For those who have come here to learn just how to make doors, i've stuck a copy of the tutorial map here for you to download.  If you download it, unzip the map file to the directory "Maps" in your main vampire directory.

Lets get started shall we?  Doors are one of the simpler things in vampire to make and don't require alot of effort.  There are a few little tricks to getting them to open the way you want them to, but all in all, doors are simple.  We are just going to be making a simple door here.  So first off in the X-Y Screen, click once and press ESC to make sure nothing is selected.  Once you've done that, draw a block that will be the new door.

Make sure that in the Z Screen the door reaches the floor, or however you want it.   Im making my door one block lower then the ceiling, and one block higher then the floor for this map as shown above.  Now in the X-Y Screen right click, and the menu will pop back up, look threw the menu and you will see Quick Doors, it will pop up another window showing all different types of doors.  Here we are just going to be selecting "Door" so do that now.

once you do that your door will lose selection and a box will take selection.

This little box is what controls the door.  We need to move it off to one side of the door. So move that now (click inside the box and drag).

now the door is made, but without a little more effort the door may end up acting funny in your map. Like every time its clicked it just rotates around the box instead of opening and closing. Press the N key to bring up the Not List Viewer, and click the Main tab.

Here we need to give the Door some orientation.   As you can see I have my orientation set to 90.  There are only really two values here that do any good, a value of 90 or a value of -90.  Each value will make the door open in a different direction.  Experiment with it and see what you can do with your door.

After doing that, click once on the X-Y Screen, and Press ESC.  Congradulations, you've made your first door.  Pretty simple arent they?  As you play around with them, you will find that you can do more intresting tricks with doors, making them open upward or down into the ground.  Making them look like there sliding into a position rather then just swinging open.

The more you experement with the doors the greater the chances of finding a really intresting effect that will give your level new life.
