Title: Rome Inn
Author: Unknown
Download: Here
The
Rome Inn is a dark ages inn map which contains everything you'd expect
from such a setting. What you get is two dining one areas, one for the
regular, common people and one for the higher classes, you also get around
eight single rooms upstairs, a kitchen and a bar.
You start the map at the main door but there does seem to be a staff exit in the kitchen. You're confronted by the bar to your right with the regular DA barman staring at you. Apart from a begger sleeping in one of the rooms upstairs he's the only NPC in the place. It's quiet... too quiet or something like that.
As I took a tour of the level I couldn't help but be impressed. There are some really cool touches in this map such as the spiral staircase which takes you to the upper floor, something which you don't find in many user created maps for Vampire.
Once I was upsairs and looking around I found that all the eight rooms upstairs were identical in almost every way, with the exception of one in which I found a sleeping drunk.
The rooms look like they've been copy and pasted, not a bad thing in my opinion as the basic room model is really cool with a slant in the roof betraying the fact that the outside of the building (although we don't see it) has an effect on the architecture inside. This is something I'd take note of all you mappers out there. It really adds an extra dimension to the map.
The level also makes generous use of the DA props set, but it never feels like any of it is out of place or that the map is overloaded with props.
Technically this map is sound with texturing and lighting being great with no slow down in any areas of the map, even when you take in the great view of the inn from the upstairs balcony area.
I only had one problems with this map. A small bug in the higher class dining area meant that I could walk through the table a little. But apart from this, this map is great, onto the scoring.
Scoring -
Originality: 2
Alright this map is an inn. With everything you'd expect from a DA inn and as such not greatly original. However it does have some nice touches such as the spiral staircase and the good use of props.
Artistry: 4
This map has some wonderful touches like the spiral staircase and the view from upstairs is terrific. All in all a ery professional looking job.
Authenticity: 3
This is very much a dark ages map and as such you would really struggle to fit this map into a chronicle set in modern times.
Technical: 4
Apart from the small table bug mentioned above this map is technically flawless. All round good solid work.
Overall: 13
Extra -
Although this pack is available on it's own I would recommend getting it as part of one of the Maps Galore packs from Mod Haven.
