Example Of Running A Game Page 2

by: Trunks

Okay, so now that you're familiar with the chat features in the game, let's get started. First, we log into WON.

The Main WON screen after logging in.

Let's go create a room. Throughout the beta, I've always used Trunks Test, so let's create that without a password.

Creating a room

Now I'm in. Notice the screen is divided into two sections. On the left is the list of people in the room and the main chat window. On the right side is the list of games on the bottom screen, and when you click on one information about the game is shown on the top window. At this point in time, there are no games in the room. Once you're in a game, the right half of the screen changes, with the top window displaying who's in the current game and the bottom screen is the game "lobby," a seperate place to chat for people in the game.

Chatting in Trunks Test

So let's go setup our game. I click on "Create Game", enter the name of the game, disable Automatic Storyteller because I'll be running things myself, and then click on "Load Saved" to choose one of my save files that has the custom chronicle I intend to run.

Creating a game

Now I wait for people to join. When the ST is still in the chat room, the "Start" option is only selectable by the ST. Once he hits Start, the button will be available for the other players. However, I require a little setup before we can begin, so I ask the players not to hit "Start" until I give the word. I will still be able to keep track of chat in the lobby while I setup a few things.

Chatting in the game lobby as well as the chat room

As the players wait in the lobby, the first thing I do once I start the game is disable the AI and lock the game. The PC I'm using, Monique, is the girl the group will be trying to rescue, and I will need to move her into the right place. So by disabling the AI, I prevent any enemies from accidently attacking her as I move her to the proper area. I lock the game to prevent other people from joining a game that has already started. If anyone drops, I just unlock until the person can come back, kicking anyone who may accidently join.

Disabling AI and locking the game

Now I need to move the girl to the right area. I bring up the Locations Panel and select the appropriate area, then click on the Jump to Location button.

Before I move the girl, there's one small item I forgot to do. This area is a perplexing maze of stairways and doors, and the only way to figure out where to go (aside from trial and error) is by interpreting clues on inscriptions spread around the area. There is a dead horse here to add some spookiness to the atmosphere, but it's missing a little something. Let's add a creature of some sort to make things even more scary. So first, I get the ST head in the general area by right clicking. The ST Head is nothing more than a pointer tool, and can only be seen by the ST.

Placing the ST Head.

Now that the ST Head is where I want it, I open the Objects Panel, toggle it to the "long list" (this shows all the objects in a particular category) and choose "Show Only Actors." This brings up a list of all possible NPCs in the game, including enemies.

Bringing up the Object Panel.

I scroll down the list, choose "szlachtaeating," then click on the "Create Thing" button. And voila, I have a little critter here munching away at the horse's corpse. This screenshot can't do the model justice though, as you can't see the animations of the beast bending down and munching, along with the creepy sound effects.

The added Szlachta, munching away.
