Q: How do I use the cheats??

-- OR --

Q: How do I activate the console? Help me, I need it step-by-step!

A: Step by step: no problem. I'm going to make this very basic, so if I tell you stuff you already know, forgive me. ;)

The icon that you click on to start the game is called a "shortcut". It's called this because it "points" to the file that really gets run when you double click on it; all a "shortcut" really is is a file with some information about how to run *another* file. So, find this shortcut. It is either:

a) on your desktop, or

b) in your start menu.

You need to modify one of the pieces of data in this file. The way you do that for each case above (a or b) is different:

If it's on your desktop, then right-click on the icon itself, and select "Properties" on the menu that comes up.

If it's on your start menu, open Windows Explorer, and browse to the \Windows\Start Menu directory. This is the directory that holds your entire Start Menu; Windows "makes" the Start Menu on the fly based on what is in this directory. So, your icon to start Vampire is probably in a folder like:

\Windows\Start Menu\Program Files\Vampire - Redemption

In there, you will see the one you click on to play the game. Right click on it, and select "Properties".

*whew*

Okay. Make sure you are on the "Shortcut" tab in this dialog box. Find a field called "Target". It should have something that ends in "Vampire.exe" in it. That is where you want to append "-console", so that the whole thing looks something like:

"C:\Program Files\Vampire The Masquerade - Redemption\Vampire.exe" -console

Or something like that, depending on what your folders are named on your hard drive. Once you've done that, click OK.

Bingo. Now start the game. To bring up the console, press the '`' key (the one with the tilde (~) on it). You should be good to go after that.

Addendum 8/22: Some people are having trouble getting the above to work. If you try this, and get an error like "path is invalid" or "filename does not exist", make sure that:

a) there is a space between the "Vampire.exe" and the -console

b) the path that you've typed in is valid

c) you have quotes around the first part ("C:\...\Vampire.exe")

Please send feedback, questions, or bugs to darklord@planetvampire.com.
